East of the Sun, West of the Moon
A production proposal by Kjerstin Anderson
Based on a Nordic fable by the same name, East of the Sun, West of the Moon is a variation of the monstrous bridegroom story (Beauty and the Beast, Cupid and Psyche, etc.). Inspired by folk art, traditional music, and the icey wonder of Scandinavia, these costumes help tell the mystical story of love, work, and determination. The importance of keeping folk art and history alive cannot be overstated. It fosters community, encourages empathy and is believed by anthropologists to discourage white supremacy and facism.
