Inspired by the script's retelling of The Suppliants by Aeschylus, the costumes were heavily inspired by the work of  Artemisia Gentileschi. Gentileschi painted depictions of biblical horror against women from a women's view - terrible and honest. She shows women who are not passively enduring, but surviving, and taking charge. Taking drapery and color inspirations from her paintings, as well colors and textures inspired by decaying flora, the costumes took form.
